In this project, we have created our personal memoirs in both English and our native languages. To share our work, we have uploaded a written and oral version so that many people can enjoy our work!

The work presented is still in draft form, and we will continue to improve the quality of our work through the feedback and questions provided by readers/listeners! Please comment with compliments, suggestions and questions for us.

296 S.J.T. (Uzbekistan, Age 16): English

S.J.T.
Age 16, Uzbekistan

            Hello my name is S.J.T I am 16 years old I am from Uzbekistan, Samarkand. I lived there with my family in big house. I have a big family my grandmother, my uncle and my cousins. I was 6 grade and I had a lot of friends we always walk and do something together. One day my mom was cooking at night her friend call her and say “You guys are lucky congratulations you win the green card.” My mom and dad was so happy to hear that news. I was kind of nervous because I don’t know anything about coming here. My dad say to me “it will be okay don’t worry you will know later when we get there you will learn a lot of things,” then I said “okay.”My mom she make appointment to Tashkent on April 11 to April 19.

We went to Tashkent after 2 month in April 11 for Medical Office. They check us we was okay and then they tell us so we can go embassy on April 19. After 8 days in April 19 we went again to Tashkent to get visa for United State. Tashkent is the big city, we didn’t know how to get to the location then driver ask for help to other peoples who leaves in this city. Then we waste 2 hours on the road  after two hours finally we went to the location. We get into the building that we suppose to be get in. Then one man ask some questions for us. Then we answered the questions then the guy said “you guys can go home and I will call u guys then you guys can come and get your visas.” We back to Samarkand our city after 2 week the guy call my mom and say “your visas are ready come tomorrow we will be available.” My parents was so happy that our visas are ready. My mom and my big brother they went Tashkent again to bring get the visas. They came back and my parents went to ticket office and buy 7 tickets to here in New York. After 5 month in October 5 we start getting ready our stuffs to bring here in New York. In October 9 we went airport and we take airplane to New York.

After 18 hours we came to New York at night to JFK airport. Then we take taxi and we went to my cousins house. After one month my mom take me to middle school. I start middle school from half of the eighth grade. I take walk to school every morning and the school starts at 8:10 am I go out from school at 2:10 pm. I take walk back to my home alone. After two month I had some friends and I go play soccer with them. In June 26 I graduate the middle school.

  2. I like how you described everything in detail. It was very informative and I was very aware of what was happening. I think that your grammar can improve a little more, but that is something that will come as time passes.
